I believe that is true. I had heard a few weeks back they were going to vote on playing six-man rather then 11-man. At the time it was rumored they wouldn't play outlaw schedule, but rather vote to start playing six-man in the next alignment. "Word I got today was that they voted to go ahead and start next season." '
This should be a good move for them as they have been low in numbers the past few years.
Gorman oughta be pretty good. I just dont know if their coaching staff will continue there! I heard discussions about them leaving if the school board decides to play 6 man. They will have a lot of work to do on their football field converting to a sixman field! Good luck to the Panthers opting to play 6 man.
outlaw schedule is when a school picks up open dates or games with jv's and can play a full schedule, but will not be accredited to coaches wins and losses, the team cannot make the playoffs, and none of the players for that year can earn any post season honors.
If Gorman still has the same type of kids that they had back in the mid 60's, they should be good. Man, I will testify, they could take a hit, and they could dish one out!
Gorman will use the outlaw season to get their feet on the ground in sixman. They will very likely compete for a playoff spot their first year with UIL. They can find six or seven kids that will be able to play sixman.
I'm excited for this move for Gorman. I drove through Gorman many a times when I was coaching at Ranger JC. Its a great town with great folks. This is the right move for that program any their kids. We were in a very similar spot several months ago when we made out decision to move to six-man. Our kids are pumped up about the move as I'm sure the Gorman kids will be. They can now compete on a regular basis, week in and week out.
