Good Time at Gorman vs Strawn

BE

Six-man fan
Strawn v. Gorman

Arrived late to watch a pretty good football game and halftime show.
Impressions:

Lots of red on the field which is nice being my fav color.
Both coaches did a good job of attacking the defense's weaknesses.
***Sweep left vs Gorman
***Misdirection to Greyhounds right and a good pass game
Wall provides a fort-like atmosphere
Concrete stands were hard but nicely warm
Gorman's Band was killer! I'd attend just to hear those drums!! Have to admit I was anticipating the typical mediocre performance, but ten seconds into National Anthem and we were stupefied!
Concession stand sucked. Need to knock out those funky windows.
Gorman's defense played good pass defense.
Strawn SB is a quality player. Needs help blocking the rush and its a different game.
Did I mention an abundance of red.
And the Band was GOOD!!! Both squad's cheerleaders were good, too.
No program???

Was the best pre-playoff football atmosphere I have enjoyed in a while. Had us cheering like protestants.

I guess this was your bye week? You must have sat on the home side. The guest concrete was a little too warm on my rear. No idea you were there or I would have said howdy Coach.
I think Allison is one of the best spread backs I've seen the last few years. He's been putting up some big numbers in spite of almost all very young and inexperienced team mate's even if they are, as you well know well coached. Some of his cutbacks and field reversals were really fun to watch. Multiple times I shook my head wondering how did he get out of that?
We were going to watch a nephew at Breckenridge play against Hico but he stretched his MCL.
Glad I skipped the Gordon game for this one in spite of the outcome.

Not coaching this year. Wife needed a job so we moved to Evant. I'm staying home and playing Mr. Mom, and brother it is a tough lesson in humility. Am learning lessons on serving and longsuffering. It has given me a new appreciation for my mother and grandparents, the backbones of our clans.

But Friday nights are mine and have seen some real good games and teams. Learning much, too. The playoffs are going to be most interesting watching how these dynamics play out. I was on the visitor side at Gorman the other night. Hope you weren't one of those dudes who kept displaying their misguided understanding of football. For some reason most folks still believe face-guarding is an infraction. I will tip my hat to the Strawn fans who attended, their support of the greyhounds was admirable.

Is Allison an underclassman?
What injury did #11 suffer before the contest?
Is Strawn girl heavy or some of the boys not playing??
When did Coach Lee start using the Spread as his primary offense? I was in disbelief....

Outstandin' reference to one of my favrite movies...The Quiet Feller with the Duke and Maureen O'Hara. I still done like them redheads even though one of them don't like me as much as she done used to...

Allison is a SR. One of two I think, I don't think the other got a lot of playing time last year. I'm not sure they have any JR's. Yes some quit. I've been told that's why they went to the spread, just not enough hoss'es to block up front in a tight. I think this may have been Allison's least productive game thus far, a tribute to Gorman's defense and depth. He did have 25 for 136, 4 TD's rushing and 12 of 19, 182, 1 TD passing.
Last week was 16-242-8, 16-25-4. I think he's up to 33 TD's combined for the year.
Did you sit a little left of the 40 up 3or 4 row's with 1 or 2 other guy's? I've only seen you from a distance on the other side of the field. I left at the half with a crick in my neck. Made it home to hear the end on line.
A treat for me was stopping, standing between and saying howdy to two former all state defensive MVP's.
One you remember well.

His least productive game? I do remember a game were he had negative rushing yards and only 1 td! ;-)

I had conveniently and successfully managed to forget the Rochelle game. It is not a fond memory. Hat's off to them again. Hope they have a deep run.
He did also rush for 300 and pass for 122 with 9 total TD's against Abilene Christian. In week one they put up 50 on a pretty good Blum team that beat now # 1 Rockwall Heritage the following week.

Exactly brother Goob. :) I watched The Quiet Man Saturday for the first time in a while. Every time its better than the last time...quality of a great movie. It really is an "essential" for anyone wanting to know what a real man once was. We need someone like the Duke in the Whitehouse, don't we. He'd turn ISIS into a real JV squad. Lol

51' we were sitting on Strawn's side on the north end. It was me and Braxton and Cohen, but they disappeared the entire game to play behind the bleachers. Said it was them and one other guy against ten Gorman kids. They said every time they scored a td one of the kids would throw a rock or bottle at them and call them bad names. Someone even grabbed Braxton's shoes he took off and threw them onto a roof. I asked the boys if they needed me to step in and they said no cause it just made them play harder. I asked how they responded to the name calling and Cohen fired back "we said they tackled like pussies". Thank goodness mom wasn't around to hear her six year old express such venecular.

If anyone needs any domestic chores knocked out let me know. ):

After watching the Pope it would have been more accurate to say we were all cheering like Catholics at a Pontiff reception. (:

And hopefully no snow activities for a little while longer.

To answer a couple of other questions. I don't know anything about an injury to #11, hope he's all right.
Second, no I didn't yell about a facemask. But I did yell about the tackle in the end zone, a yard or two after the TD. And I yelled about the almost non in the grasp call. As I said on another thread, one of the weirdest calls I've ever seen. The Gorman guy had Allison in the grasp behind the line. They danced around a time and a half or two, the guy couldn't bring him down, no whistle. Allison breaks away, takes a step then the whistle blows. Not that either play would have made any difference. Just the second one was weird.
Now. Thank you referee's. I wouldn't want your job. Traveling long distances after a full day's work for low pay for unappreciative fans that boo you, coaches who argue, players who protest. Your dedication to and love of the game is admirable.
And I do remember from playing, it's a lot different on the field with the action happening around you than in the stands.

These days the measure of a successful night of refereeing is when no one gets attacked on the field.

Let the officials carry a can of mace...bet one shot of pepper-spray will nip that problem in the bud. And if momma gets belligerent give her a taste of what little johnny got. Lol. I'd pay triple to see that!
