GOOD NEWS from Marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice story, but are they going to have enough kids to keep the school open, and enough boys in the high school to field a team for an entire season?

I contacted the school early on in the football season, I guess it was before the season started, any way they told me they had something like 17 kids in high school. That is what they turned in a coulpe of years ago and had seen no improvement. I have no idea what they turned in this time.

I wish they could field a team. More importantly, they seemed to have started making headway by operating in the "black" and have staved off the "C" dogs for the time being.

Don, the Consolodation Dogs used to stalk Rochelle every year to move into Brady School System. Then we voted to become an Independent School Distric and the annual vote stopped.

Probably not. Nothing to draw people there. Alpine would take the money, but doesn't really want the kids. Sad situation.

Wasn't there some kind of mining operation nearby there? I guess with the current regulatory environment it probably is not operating any more.

Actually they were hauling ore out of Mexico and then storing it at Marathon or putting it on trains. I do not know what happened, but I would imagine the price of diesel having something to do with eliminating that.

Funny deal, after the glory years, the kids couldn't or wouldn't make their grades. Then they finally got a coach who tried to make them do something and they ran him off. Surely there are some football genes running around there, some where. Oh yeah, they hired a coach who tried to kill the program and I guess did for a while. Stick a fork in Mustang country, its like a chuck roast, DONE.
