Gillespie to Arkansas

Just strange. Heard this early in the afternoon and for the most part it has been confirmed.

I think the biggest parts of the equation were:
1. he wasn't going to get the Kentucky job after all (they want Billy Donovan then Tom Crean)
2. Peopler started to offer him good money and A&M couldn't match it. Not because they wanted to, but because there exists a clause in Coach Fran's contract that he much be the highest paid coach on campus and it would've meant a raise they didn't want to pay.

I'm not going to say that Gillispie leaving TAMU is impossible, but it is very unlikely. I've heard that Arkansas has contacted BG in the last few months, but they haven't offered the job and that he wouldn't be interested if they did.

The Texas A&M System Board of Regents is scheduled to vote Thursday to approve proposed enhancements to Billy Gillispie's contract.

The Arkansas athletic program is in total disarray. Heath was getting paid $700,000 as the head coach for the Razorbacks. Gillispie is getting nearly 1.3 million and will get another raise on Thursday. Even if Fran has a stipulation in his contract that says he has to be the highest paid coach on campus, Bill Byrne could go all the way to 2 million and make BG one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball. There is no way Arkansas would match 2 million.

BG returns 3 starters from a top 10 team and the #1 player in Texas is coming in next year.

I just don't see this happening. My guess is that by Thursday everything will have gone down and Gillispie will still be at Texas A&M.
