Game Programs

How hard is it for home team to put out a game program?

Obviously pretty hard. About only one of three road games that I go to have programs.

And they aren't that hard to do. Heck, even a page with rosters can be done pretty simply. I gotta think even the smallest private school has got a computer with a word processing program and a stinkin' photocopier.

Maybe a school could make it a journalism or word processing/computer class project.

And seriously, people, these young men on our fields are playing TEXAS high school VARSITY FOOTBALL. I think it's kind of important that we try to have at least a few things that send them the message that what they are doing is something a little more than a sandlot, pick-up football game in somebody's backyard. Do something, if nothing more than a simple program, get a PA system and have a formal introduction of players, play a national anthem (be sure somebody brought a flag) and if permissible at your school, say a pregame prayer.

We should honor and respect the effort that these young men and their coaches are putting forth.

You are right Mr. Hardin I will be putting a call in to Milford school on Monday to make sure that is corrected. But #3 from Milford is Jairus Russell he is a senior. Any other players I can let you know their names as well.

I would only need #'s and Names. Position and classification would be icing on the cake.

Hemrleigh has a great program. Contact them if you want to copy the best.

I often wonder the same thing. You see every conceivable level. The one I had last night was about 10 pages. Previous week an 8" x 10" piece of paper folded over.

I just don't understand why a school cannot have a program with a list including:
jersey # ... player name ... class … height … weight … position

How tough is this ? How much time could this possibly take and how hard a task ? I realize sometimes you as the home team are not provided with all the visiting team's information but you do have the stats on your kids. Couldn't getting the vitals on the kids be acquired with a simple phone call ? Normally in six man a team doesn't consist of that many players to get information on.

The information is especially important for "us guys" who travel and watch teams other than our home towns. We need and like information on the kids we are watching play.

I don't really care what the presentation is - from a simple one page program made on a word processor and copies made to a full blown program with ads and pictures. I think everyone would like to see a program with all of the vital stats on the players.

Surely every school, town or the teams supporters can have someone to do this…. Remember - include the: jersey # ... player name ... class … height … weight … position

Just my 2¢.

Great Thread Topic Don !!

If you ever come to Rochelle -- which you probably won't since it really is not on anyone's top 10 places to visit ( or top 100 places to visit for that matter) -- anyway, Rochelle puts out an absolutely beautiful, professional looking, full color program complete with pictures, ads, and home and visiting team info. If you want to see a first class program, come buy one from one of the cute little cheerleaders at the next home game in Rochelle.

Most of the games I've been to over the last 15 or so seasons have had programs - if nothing else just a list of both teams rosters.

However, last night we went to Nazareth to watch Naz and Valley. Naz had a really nice program - 4 color, professionally done. But they didn't have the visiting teams roster. Never seen that before.

Never seen that before

I attended a game at ACHS when they hosted Newcastle. They had a very nice program with pictures and ads and the Abilene Christian roster. Nothing for Newcastle. Looks like they could slip in a paper with the visiting team on it. Cost me $3.00. Will not make that mistake again.

I've seen several programs like that (basically, you use it all season long). But they'd always have a 5 x 8 insert with this week's opponent.

In fairness to others, I will tell you there have been times it's been Thursday and I'm still WAITING for a roster from the opponent. And I actually keep bugging people until I get it. Others may not be as nice or as patient or as persistent as I and say heck with it and go with what they got.

I do a simple 11 x 17 folded sheet. First page usually has a pic from a previous game, season schedule and results. Second page is the home team roster (I've cut down to number - player - class F/S/J/Sr with coaches and school staff) and a few comments on tonight's game. Third page is opponent roster (same info) and maybe district standings. Fourth page is some school sport news -- cheerleaders, school song, schedules for other teams, housekeeping stuff.

Takes me maybe an hour to put it together (since I usually just take the previous game's program and update it) and then go load the 11 x 17 paper in the copy machine. I usually mess up the first couple until I remember how to load it into the feeder but I guess I could learn how to use the booklet format in Microsoft Word and then I could actually send it directly to the fancy-shmancy copier they just got at school this year.

Will be happy to send a copy of this great literary accomplishment to anyone who askes via email or pm.

Autographed copies will cost extra.

Sounds like ACHS and Naz are twin sisters. No inserts, and $3 bucks here as well. But Naz is...well...Naz. They think the sun rises and sets on them.

I hope I'm just the exception to the rule
but seriously,
I barely have time to eat lunch
let alone
make a program.
We're not even supposed to make extra copies
of any worksheets we use.

I suck at my job, I know.

Wilson has a very nice program. Hard Cover, pictures and ads, the whole nine yards and only 2 dollars. It was nice seeing something like this at a 6man school.

It would be nice if there was a place online that people could post their rosters to, and people could pull their weekly opponents rosters off of that for their programs.

Maxpreps does have rosters listed (I don't use the site). But I have a ethical problem of putting names and such of high school students (ie, minors) on publicly accessible web sites. Just too many weirdos out there ...

I have never ever been to a Six-Man game that a game program cost you 3.00$ or anything for that matter. That's ridiculous in my opinion.

We have noticed at several different games the height and weight are not even close to what is to be correct. I don't think coaches want some players correct height and weight to be known.
