Football!!

Anyone gonna talk some flippin football? Anyine altering their schedule so they can go undefeated next year? Anyone recruiting some 'new' kids? Anyone even interested in the upcoming season?

Based solely on returning All State players here are some EARLY predictions:

D1: Austin Veritas vs Midland Trinity...except Trinity is going 11-man, so next teams with highest amount of returning AS players would be Castle Hills, SA Lutheran (both in district with Veritas), Waco Vanguard (south bracket last year), and Watauga Harvest. I'll go with Veritas vs Harvest for state title matchup with Veritas winning its 3rd straight state title. (I think Austin Regents and Greenville Christian are the only 2 schools to ever 3-peat in TAPPS)

D2: Waco Live Oak vs Conroe Covenant...these 2 look to have far and away the highest number of returning AS players. I've got Live Oak winning back to back titles and making their 4th straight state title appearance. (which I think ties them with Dallas Covenant and Greenville Christian for most in TAPPS)

Live Oak and Veritas played in the regular season last year, if they play again this upcoming season that will be a pretty huge TAPPS regular season game.

If theres a small school bracket again Ive got Freddy Heritage winning because they are due...

Any other predictions out there?

I think this year is wide open. Anyone altering schedule can do what they want but at the end of the day you gonna run through the best. Teams that standout this year in no order of divisions

Waco live oak- nice spread back returning, auto reload.

New Braunfels- gonna be tough to stop that returning "mini Calvin Johnson." Very physical and well coached team and have a good shot at being in that state game again.

Conroe covenant- many returners but nobody giving them any love. Should have been in the champ game last year but.... little short. Loaded with solid D this year.

Fredy- tradition has them in every year. Coaching is key here. As long as shipman is at the helm they have a shot as any to take down that title. Got stuck with a difficult matchup in the first round last year.

Austin Veritas and Waco Live Oak are the best two schools in any Division next year it would make for a great final game. I see it as a runaway with:
Austin winning state in D1
Waco winning state in D2
Conroe should be a team everyone should lookout for next year. they will be undefeated till there matchup with Waco

I know we have some more TAPPS followers out there......

Anyone have any predictions on the season? Any new players who will make a big impact or returning players primed for a breakout season?

Freddy is "due"?

Didn't know football worked that way. Lol

Never count Coach Shipman or the boys at Freddy Heritage out. They took Baytown Christian to a 1 point game in the second round last year.

I think I may have to make the trip to Fredericksburg this year for the Freddy/Lifegate game. They didn't play last year and I missed the 2015 game, first time since the series started in 2003.

We don't have a TAPPS team scheduled this year but have a very exciting and challenging schedule. We have five UIL schools (Blum, Strawn, Tioga, Richland Spring, and Paducah), three TAIAO opponents (Johnson County, Victory & Praise, CHANT), last years TCAF champion (St Paul's Prep), and an at-large team (Marshall Christian).

That schedule should ready us for the playoffs!

If that were the case the TAPPS D3 trophy would be in Wichita instead of Baytown. Freddy is a talented team but there is alot of talent brewing in the Houston area. Baytown, I think, was just the start of an "H-Town Takeover".

El Paso Jesus Chapel won four TAPPS titles: 1990, 1998, 1999, and 2000. They also lost the state championship game to Midland Christian in 1991. Speaking of Midland Christian, I believe they won more TAPPS 6 Man championships than any other school.

The AD at brazosport boasts that if they don't win state the next several years it'll be a huge disappointment for them. They are supposedly loaded with talent and several returning young starters. I'm sure Conroe and Baytown will have a lot to say about that but the brazosport QB will be a force to be reckoned with for any def coord

I love this time of year!!! Dads, coaches and former players overflowing with optimism. Isn't it great?

For the first time in many years I see only two real favorites- the football academy of Austin Veritas and Waco Live Oak. But....... that all depends on what TAPPS does with the playoff brackets. Are we gonna have two real, meaningful, highly-contested, and challenging brackets? Or will they continue to water-it-down and give in to the small and whiny schools that want a trophy, too, and go with three brackets again? If TAPPS goes with three brackets again there will be a couple of other contenders.

BTW, GW 280, Freddy has won six State Titles '04, '05, '07, '08, '11, '14. Runners-up '12, '13. For all you Houston area fans, one championship doesn't make a dynasty. I believe the strength of TAPPS sixman is still right in the middle of TX. Freddy, Seguin, San Marcos, Veritas, New Braunfels and Bracken will all make some noise.

Here's to a great season.

Fun fact for y'all! Brice Helton DC at Live Oak was on the El Paso Jesus teams late 90's and 2000 that won 3 straight State Championships and he also was the HC at Dallas Covenant and took them to 6 state championship appearances in 10 years. Jordan Barker the HC at Live Oak was on the Whittheral team that gave Richland Springs their last loss in a state game in 2001 (he played QB/Spreadback) and he has coached Live Oak to 5 state championship appearances in 10 years.

Houston has two consecutive season with a State Championship. Emory-Weiner Division I in 2015 and Baytown Christian Division III in 2016.

As more teams in Houston realize 6man is a option instead of struggling to pull 11 man numbers, we'll see Houston area grow into a hotbed of 6man talent.

The 2015 season saw 3 Houston area teams from the same district make the state semi-finals.

In 2016, Conroe, Alpha Omega, and Baytown had deep runs.
Once again that district looks strong.

Yes I agree about the Houston area. Lots of Houston area teams (incl. 11-man) have taken notice of what Baytown did last season and some of them might want to copy that recipe. To me, that's the strongest D2/3 District in the State. This season, I think Conroe will challenge Baytown in District and both of them could make another special run in the playoffs. Can't wait to watch those two teams in action.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Yes everyone knows Waco and Fredy have great tradition. Thanks for the info pup.
For a team full of Juniors and Seniors, Waco was not all that last year.
NCTA played them very well last year and they couldn't even make it out of the semi's in D3. Im not sure Waco would have beat either of the teams in D3 state champ game.
Veritas had their way with Waco last year. Guess they were lucky Veritas stayed in D1???
As far as Fredy is concerned, Yes they have several titles and have put together a very competitive program year after year. I would expect nothing different this year.
Wil see what this year has in store. Looking forward to some great football.

If your predictions about Veritas and Waco Live Oak are correct it will be settled on the field in Waco week 6 or 7. Veritas has to survive the trips to Garden City and Borden County weeks 1 & 2, tough way to start the season for a small private school.
