Follett and DII

I was able to make it to Snyder for the game...congratulations to the Panthers. I was surprised however, that Coach York is not at Follett anymore. Where did he go? I was surprised he would leave with talent like that!

Thanks, I must have been out of the loop on that one. Any reason as to why he would leave with the cupboard full? I mean, DII west champs, pretty impressive. I just think it's strange to leave when the talent level is up, but what do I know.

That and not like WV has an empty cupboard either.

As far as money, can WV really pay more than Follett? Wasn't it just a few years ago that the valley had to lay off teachers (a RIF?) The cupboard may be full at both, but state finalist is a heck of a lot better than exiting in the second round. Just sayin'

Reverse their roles and Follett would have exited 2nd round and WV would be on their way to state. Follett didn't have to play Throck. WV is the much better team of the 2.

Careful WTS, you put a whup down on all them little ol west teams, then you jump and holler like you the BIG varmint in Tejas 6 man. You might just round the corner and run head on into a Blue and White Coyote..Tag u it

Since when was a lack of money a concern to building a champion football team in Texas?

To be accurate, had Follett not dropped to DII, they would have been in District 1. Then they would have probably been beaten by Petersburg or Valley.

The only way they would have faced Throck would have been in the semi-finals.

Semantics, I know. But still.

I don't think Follett has a lack of money. At least not judging by all the oil wells dotting the pastures, and the requisite number of service trucks driving like bats out of hades up there.

Maybe it was that the former coach tired of all the driving/riding buses required for such a remote community. I know I would tire of it really fast. Or perhaps this was a planned exit on the part of Coach York. BE has been in Follett for two previous seasons that I am aware of.

I'm not a tax payer up there, nor do I have any other skin in the game. But - even from where I sit - blaming Follett's coaching change on lack of money doesn't pass the smell test.

They both played Throck. Same result. Follett played Valley within 10. Water Valley might not be the much better team.

WV vs Follett? WV may have won, Follett may have one. What difference does it make to a hornet? Bitterness is an ugly burden to carry eh? How about focusing on administering your school. Does your school play WV in the roundball this year? I sure hope so. No Mercy Rule!

I don't think money had a thing to do with it at all. I don't know exactly what happened with the change but you don't bring in HE and expect nothing to happen eventually. That being said WV is a good program that is in the same boat as Follett in a lot of ways and they just happened to run into a better team in the second round. Throck played both teams beating both handily and from what I can tell easily so to say one could beat the other without actually playing is just crazy talk. Congrats to Follett on a great run this year and we'll see if they can continue it next week.

By the way that wasn't a knock on HE making something happen I was just saying that when you have someone with his experience he's gonna lead eventually and I think he's done a great job with the team after the class that graduated.

You gotta' love this. Two weeks after the WV is playing basketball and these dorks (jimnedder, West Texas Sixmaner, and paulbunyan) are still talking crap. Under the guise of a "Follett and DII" thread no less. Funniest thing is that it's probably just one dork and not three. I bet it gets old switching between usernames all the time. Dude (or Dudes if that be the case), give it a rest. Get over it man. You got fired (or RIF if you want to call it that), so what? It happens - move on. I hear there's work in the oilfield up around Follett. You could drive a truck and everything!

Speaking of Follett, I listened to the game on the webcast and it sounded like a real barnburner. I was kind of rooting for Grandfalls-Royalty because they're such a small school but I guess the better team won. The Panthers will certainly have their hands full next week no matter who comes out of the East.

That 's funny! Anyhow, in an unprecedented move I will agree with Backer.....I think Follett will have there hands full regardless. It 's probably safe to say that most folks are expecting Richland to come out of the east. IF that's the case Follett will have to be great. Richland's been bringing their A game for a long time. No reason to expect a change now.

Sorry to disappoint you backer...no crap intended. Just wasn't aware that York had left Follett...AND I don't believe that it is normal for coaches to leave a school where there is alot of talent left on the team. But like I said, "what do I know?" It isn't a slight against Water Valley. Whoever said you are sensitive is right...
