If it crosses the line of scrimmage it is dead as long as no defender touches it afterwards. If it stays in the backfield it can be scooped and scored.

Who's doing the scooping doesn't it. It is a kick and live ball. I think the defense could recover the ball and advance as long as it does not reach the end zone. May be wrong. If it does not cross the NZ either team can advance the ball. Havn't checked the rule book so for sure could be wrong. Probably need to post this in "Ask a Ref".

i believe you can catch it in the air in the endzone if it is short (or jump up and catch it if you have a crazy vertical jump if it is going to be good) and return it if you wanted to...I know you can in the NFL but not sure about NCAA/HS
