July 18......

Due to the UIL requiring all coaches of any UIL sport to get ceritified in Concussion training. Starting at 4:00pm in the Redwood and Aspen room up stairs of the Lbk Holiday Plaza, the Association has ceritified UIL members conducting a course from 4 to 6. The course will be FREE and a MUST HAVE TRAINING FOR A UIL sport coaches.

At the conclusion of the 4:00 to 6:00 Concussion training, Jerrys Scoreboard will be feeding coaches and has booked one of Lubbocks popular bands Gary Nix and West Texas, to perform prior to the start of the Chalk Talk.

why do you think there are somany concussions in highschool football today. we hardly ever had any. we did have full contact practices. i wonder if learning more from those type situations helped us more in game situations... just wondering,, oh yes we had both air /foam and fluid/foam helmets. what do you'll think you see it every day?

I think there has always been concussions in football, but today, it is studied so much more and there is so much research being done, that it seems there are more concussions.

I think concussions have always been a part of football. Junior Seau shot himself through the chest ao he would not damage the brain so docs couls do some stuides on it.

We had three concussions last season, and every time, the kid wanted to continue playing....back when we played, coaches would have let us, but now we can't.

And it's such a slippery slope when diagnosing concussion symptoms versus getting the crap knocked out of you. I like to lean to the side of caution, but I know I have sat guys out who could have easily continued playing. It's really a no win situation for the team; but we gotta protect the individual first.
