Any list like this has to start with Christoval's Jack Pardee. NFL Hall of Famer.
So subjective and some from the 60's will be lost to oldtimer's disease. The Fort had a tremendous RB in the 70's as did Cherokee, I think that was Petey Sanchez...
I was sowing oats through most of the '80's so a little lost on some of that history. Gordon's Lyle Campbell on their 99 team was the real deal. Size, quickness and excellent football I.Q. Went on to play linebacker at Dartmouth in the Ivy League. And then there is Richland Springs Tyler Ethridge. 4 year starter with 4 championships in the Aughts.
This is nothing more than a very basic starter list. There are some true gurus on this board that will have some really good details of outstanding players.
The players that stick into my mind are, in no particular order, Damian Jackson, Shane Mallory, Kenta Cook, and Blue Willis. My memory only goes back to the late 80's to early 90's as I am only 30. I would like this list to continue.
Everybody is going to have their favorites...........Time does seem to make players better. Having said that, I really did enjoy watching Charley Gray from Cherokee.............
And the Cooley boy from Gail deserves to be mentioned here. He was fast, and although he wasn't as big as a minute, he'd punish defenders that had the angle on him. I seem to recall a receiver from RS that will attest to his skills on defense.
jaydon morgan ,,,, lead the league in tackles, and tackles behind the line in the only year he played sixman ball, and he did it from a defensive lineman position
Pardee, Trey Richey, Monte Richburg, Ed Sprinkle, Manuel Beltran, Cheeta Ramirez, DeWayne Miles, Tyler Ethridge...that would be 9...not sure who I'd pick to round out they top 10...maybe William Convington, that's your 1987 Lohn player oldf&B...maybe Jackson from Trinidad, maybe Lance Morris
Kinta Cook was good but not the Best Milford player ever...and maybe not the best Cook every...I am not one to talk, you should come over and eat at my place some time...
Milford has had a slew of good uns, the Singleton brothers, the young men who played in the earlier years, Earl Daniels, a big ole white boy who played in 94, we blocked him twice all night and clipped then. He knows who he is, but he was a dandy. Their QB in 94 and 95 was special, could go on and on.
Earl Daniels rushed for over 3,000 yards in 1984...Singleston Sr. in 94 was who I was thinking about..and Henry Coleman was one of the best defensive players I saw in a game against us (96 quarter-final game)...that who you are talking about HPD?
Trevor Dean of Leverett's Chapel was one of the best linemen I have seen playin the last 20 years...85 Jayton had a lineman that was great as well...
Henry was plenty good, but ole biggun Louis Essary was a man among men. In fact that whole group skeered us. I was speaking of some of the earlier Milford folks, think one's name maybe was Fred Cook, saw that bunch whup up on Cotton Center, way back when.
I just got a refresher on the answer to who was the Greatest I have ever seen and maybe All-Time if a DI school would have given him a chance...DeWayne Miles...watched the 95 State game again and no question DeWayne Miles was the best I ever saw
Tyler Ethridge RS could pass and could avoid 2 rushers and get a first down or score almost everytime. Dwayne Miles RB for Amherst led his team to back to back state titles and was a beast! He regularly broke 3-4 tackles per carry, had speed, and averaged about 10 yds per carry.
Houge from throck back several years ago has to be in the conversation. Probably not recognized as much because of the success of those great teams they have had.
