Ball Spot on Kickoff

Kicking team kicks ball out of bounds untouched by any player - ball goes out on receiving team 16 yard line - recvg team wants to take ball at spot - no re-kick - where is the ball spot

also -- long run into end zone for touchdown - runner was being chased but not caught until 8 yards deep in end zone - ref has signaled touchdown and defensive player tackles runner 8 yards deep in EZ and runner has to be helped off field - should flag for late hit have been thrown

The options are:

1. Accept the penalty 5 yards at the previous spot and re-kick.
2. Accept the penalty and have the ball 1st-15 20 yards from where it was kicked.
3. Accept the penalty 5 yards from the out of bounds spot, 1st and 15.
4. Decline the penalty 1st and 15 at the out of bounds spot.

Not sure why any team would ever take option 4. On a kick out of bounds we will (or should) give the coach his best options. In this play I'd give the coach options 1 and 2 as those are the most logical choices for a kick that goes out at the 16 yd. line.

So I see there is a UIL rule change that places the ball on the 25yd line after a touch back and the 6 man exceptions state it's on the 20yd line ( which was the rule last year before the UIL change). So which is it? Is there a new exception that disputes the new change, or does the change also effect sixmanfootball?

1. Accept the penalty 5 yards at the previous spot and re-kick.
2. Accept the penalty and have the ball 1st-10 20 yards from where it was kicked.
3. Accept the penalty 5 yards from the out of bounds spot, 1st and 10.
4. Decline the penalty 1st and 10 at the out of bounds spot.

Hubby caught this and I really had never paid much attention at the few games that we have been to. He says that the offense has to get 15 yards for a 1st down.

Who is right, hubby or Jason?

Crap. I just noticed my error. Yes.. hubby is correct. I'm so used to saying 1st and 10.

In the Ira game last night the ball was kicked out of bounds at the 6 and the ball was placed at the 40, 1 and 15. Is that correct?

That kick was after a safety, so it was placed 20 yards from where the ball was kicked.

Pecospete, you should include all of the play information when you ask a question. Like where was the ball kicked from (20 yrd line after a safety) and correct out of bounds spot (19 yrd line) and the fact that it was untouched by either team.

Texman301 - slow down on answering questions. Be sure you have all of the information about the play.

Coach was correct on the spot (40 yard line). Wasn't sure the officials were going to get it but they did after some discussion.

The kickoff I was refering too was later in the game. was not the one after the Saftey. I did not see a penelty before or during the play other than for kicking out of bounds. Highland got the ball at the 40. Had not seen that this year.

Pecos, I was at the game and don't remember Highland getting the ball at the 40 except for the KO out of bounds after the safety. They could have, just don't remember. If they did then it was a bad spot by the officials. Look at earlier post on enforcement on KO out of bounds.
