Six-man expert
I'm posting this on the sixman thread because the subject affect's it too. Has anyone else read the story in Texas Monthly about Allen HS football? Makes me sooo glad I still at least live in close proximity to 6man.
And they used to play 6man in the 40's.

Did you hear the number that they announced that were in the band and drill team of Allen at halftime? 855 folks. Just think how many six-man schools we could make out of Allen's band!

Actually Allen played 6 man until 1958. They then went 8 man for a couple of years before going 11 man.

They don't want to go back to 6-man . . . they'd have to play Throckmorton again if they advanced in the playoffs . . . last time that happened was an 11-man regional playoff game in 1962 . . . Throckmorton 54, Allen 0.

I had a chance to ask my old coach (Tommy Boyd) at homecoming why we ran up the score, as he just never believed in doing that . . . he told me that he and Don Sims (Asst. Coach) went to scout Allen and their fans figured out who they were and started talking trash about what they were going to do to Throckmorton the next week. He said that was the only time he ever did that, as he was always good about playing the backups to get them ready for next year. He passed away recently, was glad I got a chance to visit with him.

Funny yall mention Allen and its relation to six-man. Can someone tell me which coach for Allen played six man football all 4 of his High School career? Bonus kuddos for the school he played for:)

The article mentions "the whole town shutting down " (1500 people - big sixman town) to go to a bi-district game with Vernon in 1948.

Guess nobody's read the article. It's called Friday Night Tykes. Based on pre-teen football and concussion's but mostly covers other subjects.
In the Allen Sports Association (pre K through 6th) they have 1200 players.
6th grade team. Hot night in JULY...coach at top of "steep" hill in park - "vertical planks up & down the hill, then reverse planks (crabs?)(called Hell Week).
New biggest in the state HS (see NY Times) stadium 18,000 fans, $60 million. 6th grade repeat (4) champion coach "It's very Reichstag"
Playbook contains around 80 plays.
They have a draft, move in's don't have to go through it, they can be recruited.
Parent at FOUR, 1st year at tackle (2nd grade) : $10 sack, $5 tackle, 4 sacks 1st game. Re negotiate contact, literally.
Enuff tonight.

From the ASA website they have 11 6th grade teams, 8 5th, 11 4th, 11 3rd, 9 2nd, 7 1st and 8 pre-k. 56 teams. Not sure I understand. The article mentions players staying on the same team 4 years, 2nd-6th.
In middle school kids can start attending Performance Course - an independent company - 5 days a week for 7 weeks in the summer, for a fee of course. A 195 lb 6th grade tackle.
3 middle schools have 500 players. HS has 500. Nobody want's a new HS with a 5500 enrollment, it would dilute the player pool.
The ASA league commissioner thinks Pop Warner "wussified" the game by limiting contact drills to 1/3 of practice and any player with concussion like symptoms get a medical release before he can play again.

Too Bad Mesquite had em in the 2nd round,,Skeeters qb got hurt
in the 2nd quarter,,still limped the rest of the game,,end of
3rd it was 28-28,,,Then to much depth for the Skeeters,,42-28
We have five high schools in Mesquite ,Allen just one? I would think Allen
has many kids that don't get much playing time, that could field a team and be very good.Class 6A coming.

According to Wikipedia as of 2010
Allen's population 84,246
Mesquite population 139,824

That was 2010,,the North Tx area is growing rapid
I'll bet since 2010 Allen's population has increased

Just read that the Allen ISD has had to close their new $60 million stadium due to cracks in the concrete walkways. Will be closed through HS graduations in June and is questionable for home football games this fall.

I guess $60 million doesn't buy what it used to.
