    Six man coaching clinics

The Conference is NOT at MSU this year, but at the MPEC, from what I understand. Also, I hear the Keynote Speaker is not to be missed.

Bill to prohibit UIL from penalizing athletic transfer kids

The issue with tying it to first/last instructional day is that some schools actually have instruction to the final day. Some larger districts do not allow in-district transfers on the last week of a semester. Also school calendars don't match up across the state. Little things like that. If you...

Bill to prohibit UIL from penalizing athletic transfer kids

I am more open to this that I thought, especially after the personal stuff I had to go through this year. Also, this is going to be long and probably rambling. Sorry. The bill would allow for a one-time transfer. After that, you must sit out a year. Why I think this may be OK It is really hard...

Irion County and Benjamin this weekend looks to be good

Went to the Abbott, McMullen Co game. I think it was 11-all when Run TMc went on an 18-0 run to end the first and start the second. I don't think Abbott had a single offensive rebound all game. Lost by about 22. The Panthers looked tired. Regionals are tough, but at least they aren't like they...

Irion County and Benjamin this weekend looks to be good

Was looking through the brackets and noticed this game. It seems pretty obvious that districts 11 & 16 were pretty salty this year.

    Epler also invented six-man baseball

Six-Man football, invented in Nebraska, took off. Six-man baseball? Not so much. If football could be played with just six players to a side, Stephen Epler figured, why not another sport? Today, Epler is known as the father of six-man football, the teacher at Chester High School who, nearly 90...

    Tyler Ethridge

It is so hard to say one was better than another, but both TE and Miles were incredible. Both carried their teams to championships. The way those two played also couldn't be more different. Just glad I got to see both of them play. Petey Salaiz was a great player, but could never win it all...

    Testing the Toy

I meant the idea truly grew from a project in the summer of 1987 when we were going to apply ELO to MLB data. Again only scores were available. We started the data collection in the library (talk about painful) and gf at the time had a Compaq 'laptop' (her dad was on the board because those...

@51eleven Gosh I loved hanging with the guys at the block plant. They were the best. Just nice people who were fun to know and talk football with.

    Testing the Toy

When I calculate error, I cap any win over 45 at 45. As long as the expected was 45 or over, the error is 0. This is what makes things tough. You cannot use a true error. If a team was supposed to win by 100 and wins by 45, that's really all you can do. As for @Dilla Killa asking about 1-x sims...

    Testing the Toy

It will be bouncy at best for a few teams over the first half+ of the season. Just the way things go. The worst is a team that is good early on then suffers from grades or injuries and becomes just a shell of themselves. Those really mess things up. As for finding the error or regression as...

    Testing the Toy

And just to clarify, if your ranking isn’t what you think it should be, it is 100% because I hate your team. 😜

    Testing the Toy

Just to clarify. It wasn’t a masters thesis. I wrote that thing way before graduate school (either time). The original system pegged a ‘perfect’ team around 100. It was also zero sum, meaning the total points in the system stayed consistent. There were fewer than 90 schools back then. As more...

XC Course data and results needed

Two things for XC Coaches and runners: 1. if your results are not getting to tx.milesplit.com, please make sure they do. It is super simple to send them to [email protected]. They require the HTML format from the software. IF you DO NOT have a copy in that format and the meet director...

UIL State Executive Committee to Meet (Richland Springs)

Have y'all actually listened to the DEC meeting in full? I have. Dave Lewis of Rochelle did a heck of a job and was as neutral as you can get on something like this. He tried to stick to the facts. It was very obvious that any and all evidence was given to all parties PRIOR to the meeting and...
