    State championship future

I like how some states handle it: Instead of ending the game at 45, they continuously run the clock so that both teams can continue to get more snaps. If the losing team closes the gap, then game management goes back to normal. Of course, I think some games should just go ahead and end.

    Alternatives to HUDL

HUDL assist would be nice, but I’ve had some 11am buddies say that they mess things up quite a bit. Apparently basketball is a little easier to break down than football.

I agree they had some dudes, not sure they could have gotten by Crowell that year though (I think that’s who came out of the west in D1 that year).

    State championship future

I like it the way it is. I really think combining all schools will kill some D2 programs, some (in certain areas of the state) will be placed in a district where they would very rarely have a chance at a winning record, much less a playoff berth. And I'm not going to look it up, but exactly...

    State championship future

This is interesting. Honestly, you could look at the current alignments and pair up the D1 districts with their D2 counterparts (district 1 with district 1, etc). It’s all conjecture, but which two teams would make the playoffs? I don’t see the UIL taking three to the playoffs. It won’t...

The different formulas to tabulate enrollment are no more. They take 9-12 to decide divisions. That’s it. The only schools allowed to use an alternate formula are the schools that are above 105 and want to stay sixman, UIL allows them to use one of the other three formulas.

    State championship future

Gotcha, I misunderstood where you were headed. I don't think the top end schools should be forced to play 11-man though. You used Westbrook as an example, and while they have a lot of players, they aren't close to being the biggest D1 school, they are just extremely boy heavy and those boys...

    State championship future

So what you're saying is the 6-man number needs to be dropped to 60? That's the division cutoff right now, and you think all D1 schools need to be 11man. What would the top end number of 2A need to be in your opinion? Right now it's 165 (Class 2A, Division 2). So a school with 160 kids could...

    Thankful!!

Very good program put in place by a very good man. I have the utmost respect for Westbrook, the coaching staff, and the players. I love the way they play the game, and I'm a fan. I really wanted them to lose two games this year, I will admit....but they are extremely deserving of everything...

In my opinion, yesterday's games didn't feel like exhibition games to me. And the Champion and Runner-Up teams didn't seem to act they were in exhibition games, either.

    Coaches with most Championships Appearances?

Vance Jones has 8 appearances...4 Titles 2 with Marathon 1 with Sanderson 2 with GC 3 with Balmorhea I believe that's correct.

Robert Lee, the six man San Angelo

Easiest would be playing on fields that don't have to be set-up...they are ready to go, and you don't have to worry about anything other than the game. Bigger stadiums are better if a good crowd shows up, but that's about it...playing on a modified field is important regardless of how big the...

Robert Lee, the six man San Angelo

There are a couple of advantages to playing in an 11-man stadium (especially leading up to the State Game) playing on a modified field. I feel the kids need to get used to painted sidelines (lots of incidental late hits, so need to see it in game action). Also, fielding a kickoff 9 yards deep...

    Rankin vs WB

Thank you. Coach Avalos is a good friend of mine, and as a Rankin alum, I will say he has done a great job (although I always hope he loses one game a year). I would have said the same things if Westbrook would have lost and some casual fans got on here and bashed Coach Matlock. Coach Avalos...

Then don’t say they underperformed. I guarantee that they (and their coaches) wanted to win more than you did.

    Rankin vs WB

I guarantee I’ve seen more rankin games than you, and I disagree completely. Thing is, I saw their opponents in more games than you have as well. Sorry if that hurts your feelings, but it takes more than just watching friday nights. Be happy that you get to watch these kids give their all, and...

    Rankin vs WB

It tells me that their opponents these last three years are very, very good (I think you’ll see they were State Champions…this year to be determined of course). But, like I said…send in your resume, get hired and show them how it’s done.

    Rankin vs WB

Well, if the rankin job ever opens, it’s good to know there are a few on here who would fit in great and have all the answers. Be better! And just so you guys know, Westbrook has a great coaching staff and their team has been practicing also. Give credit where it’s due. You bad mouthing the...
