bronte entering the world of sixman football

Postby HP Drifter » Fri Mar 10, 2017 11:01 am

According to sources Bronte voted last night to play sixman football in 17-18. They will honor 11 man next year. Welcome to the Longhorns.

I also confirmed this with some of my Bronte connections.

Just so I've got it clear, Bronte will play 6man in 18-19, right?..........

Bronte will stay eleven for this 2017 football season, then go six with the next realignment... is the way I read it.

They just lost their head football coach. He took a job at a school in San Angelo.

I had always heard that Bronte and Wink were two schools that would rather give up football than go sixman. Just goes to show that you never can tell. Maybe Wink will make a change too.

I believe their coach left quite a while back. Wink's enrollment fluctuates too much to really make a move to sixman. Right now they are back in 2A numbers.

I'm glad to see Bronte come to sixman. With them and Irion County (rumored), this could change the D1 districts in this area quite a bit (although Bronte is actually closer to D2 numbers than they are 11man numbers). Both have turf fields they need to adjust.

2 schools that have great 6-man coaches in their administration: Cross Plains (Phil Mitchell) and Irion County (Billy Barnett)

Irion County use to be 6man back when they called themselves Mertzon, and not a bad team either

(not in the same area of Texas we are talking about but...)

I know Hubbard will move to 6man as soon as they can count their numbers below 105 (last snap shot was 112), might happen next alignment

I have no clue about Rocksprings who's snapshot number at 60 is the lowest of any team playing 11man, but they have a football HC opening at the moment as well if any of yall want to inquire

Didn't Irion County have almost 120 kids 9-12 the last alignment. They are close enough to San Angelo to get a lot of refugees fleeing the city (like Christoval too). Anyone have any idea on how many kids they have grades 5-8 coming up over the next few years?

Talked to Coach Rawls this past week - they'll play 11-man in JH as well as HS this coming fall before making the switch to 6-man next realignment. Welcome to 6-man Bronte

You would think that the Jr High would play sixman just to start the learning curve.

Bronte would certainly bring more of a winning tradition with them to the sixman football world than would Mertzon. Though neither team has been great in this decade, the Longhorns have had more success than the Hornets lately.
