 What's most important ? Championship or beating your rival ?
What's most important ? Championship or beating your rival ? If you had to chose? Tough choice. Baylor beats Texas- its a good season. Cowboys/Redskins.. .Odessa / Midland High .. Seguin/New Braunfels etc ect. (Lorena/Bruceville Eddie...ok .that a personal favourite :) There's alot of ''championship" talk all over this board. But isn't there a "journey" here that we maybe missing? Lifegate has two rival games . 1.Town east 2.Fredricksburg Lose either one .. and .we'll ,,,even if you win the championship ..you remember that loss. Remove either one of those teams from the schedule and it would diminish the whole season. I think parents/coaches want championships and players want ( first} to beat their rivals. Thank God for the rivals in football ! Thank God for the game and championship reward. GO FALCONS/////BEAT TOWN EAST!!!! OU SUCKS!!!!http://sixmanfootball.com/board/posting.php?mode=post&f=73#

Win a Championship and you will know the answer. You can't know which one is truly more important until you've done both. When you do, the answer will be obvious.

 Re: What's most important ? Championship or beating your riv
In high school, I was able to experience both. During one year, we lost to our arch-rival during the regular season and then won the state championship. It was great to win the championship, but we all felt a little empty that we didn't win the most important regular-season game. The next year, we lost to our arch-rival which was scheduled for our homecoming game, and that stung . . . but then we met them in the state championship game (they were undefeated at that point), and beat them in a close one. We forgot the first loss and relished the last win, especially because it was the only loss for them that season.
So the answer to the question is . . . both are important if you have an arch-rival that brings out the best in you and them. But the ring still feels a little bit better.

Great story AZ2TX6Man, even from that short story , you can feel the emotion. And thats exactly my point. In all this talk about who will win D2...the most important game is ...really..your next one.

Just keep winning every week until they tell you there's no games left to play in the season.
You'll beat some archrivals, win a district and some playoff games on the way.
Easy to identify that last one. Somebody comes out and hands you a trophy at the end of that game.

I like this topic right here.... I say winning a championship is way more important! Last years Game against Tyler Street was a fun game Even though we lost by 32 Most of us held our heads up high.. I was smiling after the game.. as i limped to the bus a tyler street girl told me good game see yall at state! i said ok see ya there! Two months later in Moody We were there But tyler street was no where in sight! You get a ring for winning state not beating your rivals! and thats what we did..we got that ring.. Gotta ring?

I like this question as well... to know u made it through the grind of the playoffs and came out on top is the ultimate feeling... for a championship team.. when adrienne Peterson went to Texas to speak with Mack brown, he said all Mack talked about was beating OU.. when he went to talk to Bob stoops, he didn't even mention Texas.. he talked about that legendary title we call a champion.. adrienne didn't care about one game.. he cared about the season as a whole.. and a rivalry game is more important than a regular game... but its just one more step to that number one spot baby... ain't that right veezy?

We'll , one could argue, maybe Tapps hasn't had time to develop great rivalies...?? Maybe no one has stolen your mascot and branded his tail feathers...or painted your field or field house...maybe we need some guidelines to develop our rival book?? Like 1.they are rich 2.they have beaten you the last nine years 3.they taught you humility and you didn't ask for the lesson 4.they always have more coaches than you 5.their equipment is new every year 6.they are only miles away and will remind you often of last years score 7.and for you Jeremy...they left the great state of Texas to play for some northern team and have the audacity to brag when they win a game against Texas even though 90% of their team is from Texas...?? I'm smiling here ,bro... 8. some of the players were recruited (from russia or california) Ok ...none of the above have to be true...but you get the drift. what makes a good rival?

well notre dame has a cross town rival in wichita christian...if you wanna call it that (; theyve never beaten us in any sport in recent memory. yet for some reason we both get up to play each other like non other team. the closest theyve gotten is my freshmen year when we won by 5 and they won their district. buuut i just like to get my shots in haha. its always fun and they have good kids who try their best. good luck to the stars this season see yall on the feild...if yall still wanna play (;

Year 1 Texas beats OU, beats A&M, loses all the other games. Year 2 same results. Year 3 Texas has new coach.Year 4 Texas loses to A&M and OU gets into a B owl game makes big bucks . Coach gets new contract. Now this is the college level. Us little guys you can beat Nobody high your Rivial lose the rest of the games and see how many fans including students you will have the rest of the year. It is sad but the game in must cases, now is about winning.

Championship. But in a bad year when that's not possible, beating the rival is a good alternate prize--especially if it's the last game of the year.

The Gordon/Strawn rivalry is one of the greats. Look at the two years Strawn has won state, their record those years included only one loss. Guess who it was to? Gordon.
In these communities here if one goes further in the playoffs than the other the whole area gets behind the winning team. If Gordon can't have it then go for it Strawn and the same the other way. We just want the title here in our 9 mile tri-city area.
PS On Strawn's 2008 State Championship Gordon did beat them for the district title but Strawn came back and beat them in the playoffs. If I remember right Gordon won by 21 and Strawn turned around and won by 22. Correct me if this is wrong.
