NFL Gold Super Bowl 50 Football

Postby coach_jshelton » Mon Feb 15, 2016 6:00 pm

I was just curious how many current 6-man high schools received one of the Super Bowl 50 gold footballs for having a former player (or players) play in a Super Bowl? Spur received one for Jesse Powell, who was born in Matador, graduated from Spur in 1965 (played 11-man), played his college ball at West Texas State, and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 9th round.

He went on to play for the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphin team as a backup linebacker & primarily a special teams player, winning back-to-back Super Bowls in 1972 & 1973.

Jack Pardee did for the Redskins in #7 in 1974. I think that was his last game as a player.

A little off the Super Bowl but J.D. Smith was on the 1960 NFL Champion Philadelphia Eagles team. He played for Richland Springs (11man at the time) and later Rice University. J.D. was the 15th pick in the 2nd round of the 1959 draft......................
