For some reason, the Express-News didn't post this story on its website (http://www.mysa.com), by Aggie-beat writer Brent Zwerneman had a page 1 (news section) story about the discussions going on at Texas A&M whether to allow the all-female dance team to perform at Aggie football games at Kyle Field.

Even some long-time Aggies, including former A&M star and AD, John David Crow, are in favor of it, noting that the move to the SEC ends many old rivalries and traditions and should start some new traditions. But as you can expect, there is resistance, even in the same household. Two married Aggies from the Houston area are quoted. She's in favor of it (she was member of the original basketball dance team in the 80s at basketball games) and he's opposed.

It was noted that when the first dance team performed, many Aggie fans (men and women) protested it by opening and reading newspapers when they performed, and some have suggested that might happen again.

In the same article, it's reported that one of the candidates for Yell Leader in an upcoming election is a female, and if chosen, she would be the first female Yell Leader. Wisely, she's not campaigning to be selected because of her gender, but instead to extend the tradition to all Aggies.

l have no problem with TAMU having a dance team at halftime,As long as the dance team is Females..

That is assuming they can assemble a group of girls who can chew gum and walk at the same time. I'd love to have the contract to supply make-up, and knee braces, to that crew.

Most of the female Aggies I have observed appear to have no difficult masticating under any circumstance. ..............

Okay, it would be hilarious. Right up to the point where some alum donates $30 million to have the dance team named after him.

This reminds me of reading about "Dandy" Don Meredith wanting to play for Bear Bryant at A&M when he graduated high school. He turned down the scholarship offer because he couldn't stand the thought of being stuck on a campus where no women were allowed for four years. Lack of dedication huh?
Guess they've come a long way since the late 50's.

Maybe our old, long lost friend, the Devil Dentist (Red_Devil_DDS), can use some of his drilling fortune to bring the Driller Dancers team over to College Station. Unless Mrs. Devil Dentist gets word of the plan first, that is ...
