Re: The big C - a nightmare in the making.
Been several good Bud commercials over the years (think frogs). The one that sticks in my head though is from the late 70's featuring "Ray J. Johnson". You can call me Ray, You can call me J, but ya don't have to call me Johnson, You can call me Ray, You can call me....... If you've ever seen it it should be stuck in your head the rest of the day. If not google it.

Re: The big C - a nightmare in the making.
I wanted to ask a Q without it sounding like I'm trying to stir anything up. (I know, right? Me stiring things up? Not likely.) Anywayz, Since I finished the Lost series on Netflix I've been watching a bunch of the documentaries on food, nutrition, school lunch prog., obesity etc. I am a Physical Educator after all, so, I should review this stuff. Actually, you should too.
So, has anyone else seen or read anything about "The Gerson Therapy" for curing cancer? Very illuminating.

From Wikipedia: Max Gerson was a German physician who developed the Gerson Therapy, an alternative dietary therapy, which he claimed could cure cancer and most chronic, degenerative diseases.

Yeah, pretty much....... Blood pressure pills, anti-inflammatory, mild non-narcotic pain pills, allergy............. the list goes on.

Re: The big C - a nightmare in the making.
Had not heard of Gerson Therapy but the ACS says... the fruit & vegtable diet may be helpful in prevention but of doubtful use in prevention. 1 glass of juice every hour 13x a day. No randomized well conducted studies have been done supporting it's effectivness. NOT approved for use in US. And, here's the kicker for me, the several times per day coffee enema's have caused serious infections, dehydration, constipation, colitis, electroylyte imbalances, and, death. Now Pete's been through (recovering from) an ordeal I wouldn't wish on anyone. I know he hated having to have filmore and the mediport but they di cut holes for them elsewhere instead of putting them in through where the sun don't shine, severeal times a day. That could be dehumanizing/demoralizing enough to make one not even want to keep trying. Oh yeah, in patient treatment in Tijuana $4000 a month, 2-3 month minimum up to two years. Or they do have a home treatment package. Of course insurance won't cover.

Oh, then forget the whole thing. I'm sure the ACS (?) would tell us the unbiased truth. Perhaps Charlette Gerson would disagree.

Re: The big C - a nightmare in the making.
My drug of choice is aspirin. Seriously. I am apparently one of those lucky people for whom aspirin takes care of everything. Headache. Backache. Muscle ache. Give me a couple of generic el cheapo aspirin and I'm good to go. It goes without saying that I have never had serious medical issues.
About the nutritional therapy for cures. I'm pretty skeptical. On the other hand, while I doubt such diets can cure cancer or heart disease I do believe that they can delay and perhaps prevent the onset of a lot of the degenerative diseases. I'm pretty sure if I had been eating lots of healthy veggies and fruits for most of my life instead of beer and chocolate eclairs and FRITO PIE (yum) that I would not how have the onset of type two diabetes. Which is not to say that i would not have eventually developed diabetes 20 years down the road. Eventually our bodies wear out and start malfunctioning. But I'm pretty sure a seriously healthy lifestyle can only be a good thing with respect to degenerative diseases. For cancer - sometimes yes sometimes no. I think there is a wild-card component to certain cancers and it's the luck of the draw and not lifestyle choices. I think in a way we WANT it to be life style choices because then we feel like we have control again. Right now I am paying for 60+ years of crappy lifestyle choices - and I know I should feel bad/ashamed about those choices but damn it was fun and I sure had a good time along the way.

I'm sure you had fun along the way! but one season of watching the biggest loser should prove to you that there is a cure for diabetes. If you refuse to believe, then that's a whole other issue. jus sayin'.
