Something else happened today.
There is a troubled 4th gr. kid who, earlier this year,
cut up on the bus and in the lunchroom something fierce.
It has taken this long of consistent, tough love,
(coupled with an assigned seat on the bus),
to begin some kind of change in him.
Today, when I went to my assigned post (bathroom monitor, I'm really gonna effect a lot a change in this position, I thought)
he happened to be in the hall
and he hollered my name, RAN up to me, and hugged me tight.
Not one of those sweet little hugs you expect from the kindergardners,
but the almost knock you down if you're not ready for it kind.
I've never seen him hug anyone.
I hugged him right back. (Our Supe. is scared of signs of affection towards the kids. He has no kids of his own).
I turned around and all the teachers were standing there all misty eyed.
Well, I got all misty and we almost had a thing right there in the hall.
Luckily the announcements came on and saved me and we all went to work.
So,
next time you wonder,
you go ask that kid if I'm a coach or not. I'll go with whatever he says.

I guess the question is, do things like what happened today with that 4th grader make all the BS you put up with worthwhile?

What he's not telling you is how much he paid the kid to do that in front of all those teachers!!!!HHAHAHAH! JK! Great story!

(On a side note, I recently watched a documentary about a college research project done on a HS where they paid kids cash money to get passing grades. Not good grades just passing. It didn't work on the majority of kids who typically failed. And here's a shout out to all the Elem. teachers; candy won't work either!!!!!)
