TAPPS Championship History

Postby Birdman96 » Thu Dec 06, 2018 10:49 pm

Jonathan Hatfield and Austin Veritas has been to 4 straight State Championships and won 3. Does anyone know if that’s been done before? I know Dallas Covenant, Waco Live Oak And Baytown have had good runs, but I’m unsure how they compare to Veritas last 4 years.

Veritas is a very successful program, hats off to them. They have for sure been the most dominant team in the last couple years since entering TAPPS D1. Let's see if they can repeat success next year as they are losing a lot of key seniors and aren't returning many starters.

Midland Christian 6 straight TAPPS title appearances 1990-1995. They lost to Jesus Chapel in 1990 and then won 5 straight

EP Jesus Chapel won three straight 1998-2000 and won the TCAL title in 1997 I think

Those two stick out in my mind

Greenville Christian went to 4 straight from 2006-2009. They lost to Rockwall Hertiage in ‘06, then won three straight over Denton Calvary, Rockwall Hertiage, and Dallas Covenant respectively.

This was all in Division 1, the Head Coach was Larry Uland.

Earlier in Greenville's history they lost the state game in 2001 to Austin Regents 60-56. Austin Regents, (TAPPS) is currently part of Division II in 11-man. The 6-man football team won state championships in: 2001, 2002, 2003 in divisions 1A and 2A, in 11-man 2006 in 4A, and again in 2010. That’s 5 state titles inside of a decade. They made the state championship game in 2011, losing to Bullard Brook Hill 26-3. In 2012 Regents moved up to TAPPS Division II, and in 2016 again made the state championship game, losing to Grapevine Faith Christian 29-30 in double-overtime. They’ll be in tomorrow’s state championship game against Cedar Hill Trinity Christian. I’d say that’s a pretty stout program, considering they continue to move up divisions and classifications and still continue to compete for state titles consistently. I think that's quite exceptional.

This is my last post for a long time, couldn’t let this one pass lol

Fredericksburg Heritage went to 8 championship games in 11 seasons from 2004-2014
Winning 6 times in 2004,2005,2007,2008,2011 and 2014
Losing twice in 2012 and 2013

And coach shipman is still rolling but not with the depth of the glory days!!!

This to me is probably the most impressive

God bless,

And in both those two losses, they lost to a team from their own district who had won the district title ...
Seguin Lifegate in 2012 and San Antonio Castle Hills in 2013 (in 2013, three of the four teams in the semi-finals came from the same district as Lifegate lost to Castle Hills that year).

And Coach Shipman is still working to break the 20 mark in passes attempted during his coaching career. Shortest book ever written: "Passing the Ball in 6 Man Football," by Tim Shipman. Maybe that's not true. A couple years ago, I stopped by Freddy to say hello on my way to watch my kid play a freshman 11 man game in Llano and I actually saw the Eagles practicing passing plays. I had to go back to my GPS and be sure I came to the right place!
