Emery Weiner student population

Postby Cougar1414 » Sat Sep 10, 2016 8:52 pm

How does Emery Weiner play 6 man football with a student population of a 100 more than any other school in Tapps? Can anybody explain that to me? Over 278 students in their high school. I'm sure there is a logical answer.

I have wondered the same thing.
What is the rule in TAPPS, is it the number of male students, or did I make that up?
I do know in TCAF there are schools with a population of 70-90 competing with schools who have a population of 250 +

They are the equivalent to UIL's Highland Park. Whatever their number is that is cutoff. On top of that TAPPS changed it to go by boy population for football not total enrollment. Which is stupid and I may be mistaken, but I believe their top cutoff number for 6 man is something around 70 boys in high school.

That's an advantage of being an Independent.
You don't have to put up with the politics, the gerrymandering,
The "Grand Poo Bahs", Etc. You know which schools/organizations continually bend or break the rules or are 10 times your size and you don't schedule them.
Unfortunately there are folks out there that think the equivalent of a 12th grader beating up a 6th grader is fine, as long as their kid is the 12th grader.

TAPPS should clear that up for everyone.

I can only speak from experience as one of the 1A reps in 2013-2014. TAPPS (last realignment)went to 3 divisions and the top being an open division. The purpose of in my opinion was to keep from loses schools that are bigger but have LOW football numbers. There are other private school leagues and a very prestigious one in SPC. Schools that have 40-60 players we would hope they would play 11man if not there would be a lot angry parents. Now we have 2 divisions, and I'm not sure if D1 is open. I can say it has been based on BOYS population in the past. I like the open division but would prefer 3 divisions only if 20 in division 2 and 3. Less than 20 teams in my opinion it then becomes water down. I think if 12 -16 teams were in open division and stronger and bigger schools you could have some rivalries and might not be too watered down. Things have changed a little in the last few years, so I don't really know anything anymore but I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Last year varsity according to Maxpreps they had 18 on varsity and 16 on JV. The JV consisted of 15 freshmen. Thats 34 football players on their roster this year they are not posting a roster on Maxpreps (smart move) for JV. In sophomores alone they would have have over 15 this year. I know plenty of sixman teams would like to have 15 total players on their roster. I know plenty of 11 man teams would like to have over 30 on their roster. Doesn't make much since to me but they sure look good against Austin V. I was able to catch that game. They play the game well and will repeat as State Champs.

Only speculation on this guys? C'mon.......

Answer is, TAPPS does not care. Call and ask them. They figure that if you want to play six man, have at it. This answer was from 2014 at a coaches/TAPPS meeting.

I think playing with 100+ more student is leverage for championships against teams that would love to field an 11 man team. TAPPS should look at UIL rules and refuse the back room deals if they are happening. This is definitely not a wise allotment of TAPPS.
