 Why not junior high football?
I know that junior high football isn't talked about much on sixmanfootball.com. But let's give the younger, smaller guys there due, their football players too. Has anyone seen any good junior high games this year, or maybe heard of any good teams, whether in TAPPS, TCAL, or TCAF?

I know we have a pretty decent junior high league in the San Antonio area, with about 25 teams (including Prairie Lea JH) ... but there are a number of those schools that do not have high schools associated with them; also TAPPS and T-CAL do not administer any junior high leagues. TCAF has an associated group, CSAF, which serves junior high teams in the DFW area. Just learned the other day there is a sixman Catholic School league in the Metro Houston area, I think it has about 6-8 teams (again, schools that do not have high schools directly affiliated with them). I'd certainly like to hear about other schools that have junior high teams, especially those schools without high schools attached to them.

Because we are inanely serious, no-nonsense, stay on topic, verbally pasive, "I know all the seniors names", my team rules!, kind of folks. Their due????? I suppose you want a trophy for a non-existent district champion too? Hang in there little guy untill you're honor is due.

Dogface, thanks for your intellectual response as usual. I know plenty of junior high teams that could beat some varsity teams i've seen. Then kiss their girlfriends and yes, even probally take their district championship trophy, big guy. Sounds like you must of had a rough junior high experience. Football is Football, and real fans enjoy it on every level!

Re: Why not junior high football?
Guys, I remember reading on another board several years ago (for crowded field football) some yahoo wanting to know when the UIL JV football championships were held. since his school's JV team was all that and a bucket of chicken.
What a maroon!
But, seriously, they have been having a junior high All-American bowl football game before the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio the past couple years. Fortunately, most mommas and poppas have not gotten the word about this event and coaches have not been peppered with wailing why their little prodgency was not selected for this game...and why they didn't get an all-expense paid trip along with it.
Ok, seriously.
Junior high (and subvarsity) sports exist to help teach youngsters about the sport. It gets them familiar with the routine (we always joke that the primary objective we have with our sixth graders is to teach them how to dress and show up for practice, thinking that if we can accomplish that in the first year, we're that farther ahead the next year).
Junior high and subvarsity coaches need to be working closely with their varsity counterparts, learning the system that the coaches plan to use at the next level. The San Antonio Express News ran a good story the other day about how junior high coaches work with their high schools; I remember one of the Converse Judson feeder coaches talking about how (1) they teach a couple basic Judson plays from the start and (2) how they try not to pigeonhole a kid into a position; often the kids they coach in one position end up somewhere else in varsity.
We were talking the other day about some topics we might want to cover at our coaching clinic next summer here in Seguin and one was to do a breakout on junior high/JV coaching and working with varsity coaches. Any ideas?

Perhaps, the amount of attention your topic received is indicative of how most folks feel about JH. It's necessary! but for training ONLY!

Well, Doggy it makes about as much sense as having Kindergarten "Graduation" replete with caps and gowns, Jr. High Proms and a host of other "esteem building" experiences that are abundant now.

Re: Why not junior high football?
The best junior high team I saw this year was Gordon's Jr. High.

Re: Why not junior high football?
If you go into a Jr High game with anything but "this is learning time" your a little off. A good loss can be as profitable as a win in JR high. And it's always good to see "SmolderSlow" in the private sector keeping us focused.
