Week 13 Player of the Week
Morgan Whitfield – Iredell – 11-206 yards, 3 TDs rushing; 10 tackles, 1 INT

Iredell pulled off a big upset last week, defeating Oakwood 54-8. Key to that victory was the outstanding play of Morgan Whitfield. Averaging 18.7 yards per carry, Whitfield rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, and racked up 10 tackles and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. His performance helped drive his team and sustain momentum for the Dragons throughout the night, as they marched on to a big upset victory.

Honorable Mentions:
Chism Henderson – McLean – 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 7 tackles; 4-61 yards, 1 TD rushing, 1-31 yards receiving

Henderson has been a vital part of McLean’s rise to the top this season, providing great defensive play, while helping the offense at the fullback position with excellent blocking. He gets a few touches each game, both rushing and receiving, and makes the most of them, usually picking up large chunk of yardage helping alleviate presser off of running back Ben Crockett. His game against Knox City was exactly like that. However, he did catch a big peel back block in the third quarter, causing him to leave the game for a few plays. He returned and finished the game, even scoring his lone touchdown on a 40-yard run, as the Tigers won 75-44. After the game, he complained of pain and was taken to a hospital where it was learned he had sustained two broken ribs, a lacerated liver and lacerated and ruptured spleen on that play in the third quarter. As of today, Henderson is out of ICU and recovering well. He will serve as inspiration to his team when the take on powerhouse Happy this week. While I don’t recommend anyone playing injured, Chism Henderson’s performance and powering through those types of injuries for about 20 minutes of game time is remarkable and worthy of an honorable mention for player of the week! Thoughts and prayers from all around the six-man community go out to Chism and his family with hopes of a speedy recovery!

Corbin Schrotke – Milford – 16 tackles, 1 fumble recovery
While Taron Smith might get all the headlines, QB/E/DE Corbin Schrotke stands at 5’9 and weighs 160. He may be on the smaller side of most defensive ends, but he comes up big for the Bulldogs every week. In last week’s big win over Richland Springs he led the team in tackles with 16 and recovered a fumble helping Milford shut down the Coyotes offense.

Tristan Garza – Petersburg – 33-535 yards, 7 TDs rushing
Petersburg fought tooth-and-nail with Follett, leading for a good portion of the game and forcing many lead changes, only to eventually fall to the Panthers 84-74. In the loss, Petersburg running back Tristan Garza rushed for a phenomenal 535 yards and seven touchdowns. The 535 yards is the highest total for a single game this season. Garza also had one catch for a 35-yard touchdown.

Isaiah Sampson – Dallas Lutheran – 13-291 yards, 6 TDs rushing; 3-5-0 for 85 yards, 1 TD passing; 13 tackles
Sampson played like Sampson in Lutheran’s 95-50 win over Watauga Harvest. His 376 yards of total offense and 13 tackles played a big role in the victory. He averaged an outstanding 22.38 yards per carry.

Colton McCarley – Happy – 4-4-0 for 185 yards, 2 TDs passing; 10-98 yards, 5 TDs rushing; 11/12 PAT kicks; 3 tackles
Same thing different day for McCarley, as he was a perfect 4-for-4 passing with two scores for the Cowboys and added rushing touchdowns on half his carries. More importantly, he was 11/12 kicking PATs. Happy downed Ropes 94-46 in a game that ended at halftime.

Is Whitfield the one who got hurt in the Milford game and do we have any updates on his status?
