Week 11 Player of the Week

Oscar Huertes – Grandfalls-Royalty – 13-17 for 311 yards, 8 TDs passing; 6-115 yards, 2 TDs rushing; 15 tackles
Oscar has put up some solid numbers over the season and he helped cap off the Cowboy’s regular season by logging 426 yards of total offense as well as 15 tackles on defense as Grandfalls-Royalty defeated Dell City 72-22.

Honorable Mentions:
Matthew Morris – Panther Creek – 26-388 yards, 12 TDs rushing; 4-6-0 for 79 yards, 1 TD passing; 9 tackles
Amazing night as Morris led Panther Creek to victory over Cherokee 88-51 to clinch their district runner-up playoff spot. 12 touchdowns rushing matches the most in a single game this season.

Anthony Coy – Ira – 29-302 yards, 6 TDs rushing; 14 tackles
Ira’s running game was not very coy behind Anthony Coy as he carried the ball 29 times eclipsing the 300-yard mark and scoring six touchdowns last week as the Bulldogs defeated Hermleigh 71-41 to finish the regular season undefeated at 9-0.

Seth Schilling – Walnut Springs – 28-165 yards, 5 TDs; 2-4-0 for 37 yards passing; 1-3 yards receiving; 4 tackles
Schilling scored all 5 of Walnut Springs’ touchdowns in a must win game over Cranfills Gap that decided the district runner-up.

Blake Rubio – Fort Davis – 19-184 yards, 3 TDs rushing; 9 tackles, 1 fumble recovery; 20 yard TD reception
Down 41-39 the super freshman for Fort Davis scored the game winning touchdown on a 20 yard pass and catch as time expired and the Indians won their final game of the season over Marfa 45-41.

Jemal Lane – Crowell – 5-218 yards, 4 TDs rushing
Lane averaged 43.6 yards a carry for the Wildcats and scored on all but one of them as Crowell defeated Chillicothe 67-0.

Miguel Padron – Avalon – 410 total yards; 13-23-1 for 305 yards, 5 TDs passing; 16-105 yards, 2 TDs rushing; 7 tackles; 1 punt for 51 yards; 5/9 PAT kicks
A solid night against highly ranked Milford for Padron as he logged 410 yards of total offense and did a little bit of everything and Avalon hung in there and fought hard in a losing effort.

6man Nation!!!!!! Nathan Baker(Soph standout) beats out several big time big school kiddos this week for the Times Record News POTW!!

Thank you to all that voted for Nathan. He also broke the single- season rushing TDs record at Wichita Christian on Friday night. His brother(Aaron Baker TAPPS 1A Male Athlete of the Year in 2015-2016) set that record in 2013.

There were several worthy players who were considered and here are the five finalists. Online voting runs until Thursday at noon every week.

QB Jacob Rodriguez, Rider – Rushed 16 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns while completing 6 of 11 passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders’ 45-27 win over Wichita Falls High School.

WR Nick Slaggle, Seymour – Caught eight passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and picked off a pass that sealed the Panthers’ 21-14 win over Chico.

QB Carter Hilbers, Archer City – Completed 12 of 15 passes for 194 yards and four touchdown passes while adding 57 rushing yards on four carries in the Wildcats’ 51-7 rout of Electra.

QB Clayton Laughery, Quanah – Completed 15 of 21 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 104 yards and three scores in the Indians’ 52-20 win over Shamrock.

RB Nathan Baker, Wichita Christian – Rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns while caught four passes for 99 yards and two TDs and scoring twice on kickoff returns in the Stars’ 78-71 two-overtime win over Plainview Christian. 7 overall TDs and 7 tackles. 3 pat conversions. 103 kick-off return yards.
