Week 1 Player of the Week:
Abraham Nevarez – Knox City – 19-27-0 for 320 yards, four touchdowns passing; 13-235 yards, four touchdowns rushing

Jayton had no answer for Knox City spread back Abraham Nevarez as totaled 555 yards of offense in the Greyhounds 92-42 win. The game was back and forth for the first half and KC held a slim 48-42 lead going into the locker room, however Nevarez and his teammates turned on the juice in the second half ending the game early via the 45-point mercy rule.

Honorable Mentions:
Ben Crockett – McLean – 29-156 yards, three touchdowns rushing; 4-81 yards, one touchdown receiving; 1-7-0 passing for 12 yards; eight tackles

In one of the biggest surprises of week 1 the McLean Tigers turned in a dominant performance to defeat the Strawn Greyhounds 51-18. Crockett carried the ball 29 times gaining 156 tough yards and finding pay dirt three times. He also caught four passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. It should be said that McLean’s offensive line, Kater Tate, Kade Reichman and Bradley Hannon, also deserve a lot of praise for their blocking performance.

Blake Rubio – Fort Davis – 22-234 yards, two touchdowns rushing; 1-1 for 36 yards, one touchdown passing; three kickoff returns for 63 yards, one touchdown (51 yards); eight tackles, one interception
Rubio is just a freshman but turned in an amazing performance against a tough Dell City team that helped Fort Davis defeated the Cougars 54-39.

Isaiah Sampson – Dallas Lutheran – 22-249 yards, five touchdowns rushing; 5-8 for 73 yards, one touchdown passing; two tackles
Sampson, one of the most talented kids in the private school sector, had over 300 yards of total offense rushing for five TDs and passing for another as Dallas Lutheran notched a 53-28 win over New Braunfels Christian Academy.

Brendan Hanlon – McKinney Cornerstone – 23-34 for 426 yards, nine touchdowns passing; 18-208 yards, four touchdowns rushing; eight tackles
A huge night for Hanlon who racked up 634 yards of total offense as McKinney defeated Greenville Christian 107-71.

Daniel Salinas – May – 18 tackles; 13-120 yards, three touchdowns rushing; 1-10 yards receiving
In a game that featured strong defensive play Daniel Salinas had a big night on the defensive side of the ball as the May Tigers defeated the ever tough Richland Springs Coyotes 40-26.
